Iowa Department of Corrections: Department of corrections reentry program for the state of Iowa.

Bridges of Iowa – Bridges of Iowa is a licensed level 3.1 long term substance abuse treatment program housed at the West Wing of the Polk County Jail. Bridges of Iowa has forged a partnership with Polk County Board of Supervisors and the Polk County Sheriff and has received the opportunity to house our substance abuse treatment program in an unused wing at the jail facility. This additional space affords BOI with the opportunity to double the number of men served. Further, this space, and grants from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and Prairie Meadows, has given Bridges the opportunity to open a women’s treatment program that mirrors the successful men’s program with the addition of gender specific treatment modalities to deal with the particular issues that women face in substance abuse treatment. Curricula developed by Dr. Stephanie Covington, an international expert in the treatment of substance abusing women, will be integrated into BOI programming for women.

Central Iowa Works – A workforce intermediary is a local partnership that brings together employers and workers, public and private funding streams, and relevant partners to create and implement pathways to career advancement and employment. The No. 1 goal of Central Iowa Works is to close the skills gap and meet the needs of employers by helping them to recruit and hire qualified workers for jobs in central Iowa. At the same time, we strive to address the needs of job seekers by helping them get trained and hired for real jobs with pathways for growth.

Mental Health Reentry Program: The Mental Health Reentry Program (MHRP) is a program that provides a high level of service and intensive supervision for parolees who have been diagnosed with chronic mental illness. Participants must have a diagnosis listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual in the Axis I category. These diagnoses include schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders (depression, anxiety, panic), and bipolar disorder. Of those clients admitted to the program, 98% have had a significant history of substance abuse. Many have used alcohol and illicit drugs to self-medicate their mental health problems. Oftentimes, this leads to criminal behavior, arrest and placement in the criminal justice system. This program is designed to impact on the recidivism of clients with co-occurring disorders. Maximum impact is achieved by providing a higher level of service, support and supervision than is available in the traditional parole supervision situation. MHRP clients must agree to comply with substance abuse and mental health treatment recommendations. They must also be agreeable to taking their psychiatric medications as prescribed by their treating physician.

Transition Services for Incarcerated Veterans – A specially trained Iowa works Veteran specialist is available to meet with veterans that have background issues to do an initial assessment and determine what community services and assistance needed by the veteran and make appropriate referrals to assist with a smooth transition for the incarcerated veteran into civilian life.
