180 Degrees – 180 Degrees operates a variety of programs and services dedicated to turning lives around. Our mission is: 180 Degrees, a multi-cultural organization, provides comprehensive, culturally specific services that empower our clients to improve their lives by making positive choices resulting in healthier individuals, stronger families and safer communities. We provide residential programs, life skills enrichment, resiliency mentoring, educational engagement, supportive accountability programs and therapeutic mental health services for youth, adults and families in Minnesota. 180 Degrees, Inc. was incorporated in 1971. We are a 501(c)(3) organization that is led by a 11-member, multidisciplinary board of directors.
AccessAbility – AccessAbility, Inc. provides an array of programs and services to meet the changing life needs of adults with a variety of barriers to employment and community inclusion including individuals with disabilities and economic disadvantages. The goal for most individuals is placement in a community job. Training and work opportunities are available in a three-prong approach: entry level basic skills, mid-to-high technology, and career/personal training. Recreational and retirement programs are also available. As a result of our training and programs, we serve nearly 600 participants annually at individual work sites, in work crews at business sites and at our three locations.
Breaking Free – Breaking Free is committed to diversity and to the empowerment of women. Our staff come from a variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise, and many are themselves survivors.
Christian Restorative Services – At CSH, it is our mission to advance housing solutions that deliver three powerful outcomes: 1) improved lives for the most vulnerable people 2) maximized public resources and 3) strong, healthy communities across the country.
Dakota County Re-Entry Assistance Program (RAP)– The Dakota County Re-Entry Assistance Program (RAP) helps jail inmates with histories of multiple jail stays minimize the number of times they return to jail. The program provides transitional and supportive services that assist sentenced inmates exiting the Dakota County Jail with re-entry into the community. Community Corrections reviews requests from jail inmates seeking re-entry assistance, conducts interviews to determine eligibility and identifies service needs for inmates selected for the program. After an inmate is accepted, Corrections identifies and coordinates service needs, options and develops a re-entry case plan.
InnerChange Freedom Initiative (Minnesota) – InnerChange Freedom Initiative (Minnesota) is a voluntary, faith-based prisoner reentry program that attempts to reduce recidivism by preparing inmates for reintegration from prison to the community. The program seeks to promote positive values and address the criminogenic needs of participants by educating inmates in a variety of areas, including substance abuse, victim-impact awareness, life-skills development, cognitive skill development, moral development, education, community reentry, and religion. Although the program promotes Christianity, the InnerChange program is open to both Christians and non-Christians. Additionally, the InnerChange program matches each offender with a mentor in the community and engages the community by involving local churches in program activities, with the belief that such support and ties to the community will reduce the recidivism rate of participants.
RS Eden – Since 1971, RS EDEN has been a leader in delivering effective services to Minnesota and surrounding communities. From early achievements in substance abuse treatment and correctional residential programs, RS EDEN has evolved into a multi-faceted agency that facilitates positive change in the areas of chemical dependency, family services, corrections and affordable housing. Safe and healthy communities foster healthy individuals and families – and vice versa. It is critical to keep building on new beginnings.
Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center – The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers provide spiritual, social and emotional assistance for men who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. Each center offers residential housing, work, and group and individual therapy, all in a clean, wholesome environment. The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society and return to gainful employment. Many of those who have been rehabilitated are reunited with their families and resume a normal life.
Step Ahead – This website helps ex-offenders and soon-to-be-released incarcerated persons find career planning, training, and job search information. STEP AHEAD was created for use on a secured computer system within Minnesota Department of Corrections facilities. The goal was to create a “website” with comprehensive career information for those who do not have access to the Internet. All content on that “closed website” is mirrored on the live site, hosted by ISEEK.
The Minnesota Second Chance Coalition – Coalition members are involved in some or all of the following activities: Second Chance Day on the Hill (planning, organizing, and coordination of all event activities); policy research and public education; lobbying, advocacy, and community organizing; and ongoing communications to member agencies, policymakers, and the public via website, listserv, and social media. Coalition members are frequently called upon to speak at events, educate policymakers, and provide information and commentary to local and national media outlets. Since its recent inception, the Minnesota Second Chance Coalition and its member organizations have effected significant policy change while increasing awareness and visibility of second chance issues on a local and national level.
Welcome Homes – Welcome Homes is a program of YouHaveThePower.org that provides sober housing, transitional services and pro-social support to those in reentry and recovery with barriers to housing. Each of our homes enlist the community to use a circle of support model to manage and support those citizens returning to the community. This model has been successfully used since 1994 in Canada, United Kingdom and the United States. Circles of Support are based on restorative justice principles. Each circle has a team of 4-6 community members who receive training and support from professionals. The circle meets regularly to facilitate the transitioning members’ practical needs, provide emotional support, challenge the behaviors and attitudes, and develop constructive and pro-social strategies to address everyday problems.Nationally the statistics show that these are the greatest factors in reducing recidivism and relapse:
Mentoring
Safe Housing
Adequate Employment
Pro-social support
How it Works
Each home, located throughout the metro area, is privately owned and has returning citizens in transition residing in the homes while participating in the circles of support. We recruit and train a circle of support for each home to provide mentoring, healthy relationships, decision making, coaching, accountability, conflict resolution, recreation and pro-social support. Each circle of support has a Circle Keeper with 4-6 diverse community members. Welcome Homes collaborates with other service providers to assist the residents with soft skills training, job skills, employment and financial management training as needed. By providing housing and pro-social environments for those individuals who are re-entering the community after treatment or incarceration reduces relapse and recidivism. The Welcome Homes model invites the entire community to be part of the solution, help their neighbors thrive and make their communities safe.
