A recent law in Tennessee allows certain criminal convictions to be expunged from a felon’ record. This is good news for felons seeking employment, promotions, or better credit ratings, as it will prevent others from knowing about past mistakes. However, the law may not be permanent, so it is recommended to file for expungement as soon as possible. To be eligible, a felon can only have one or two criminal convictions, must wait five years after completing their sentence to file a petition for expungement, and must have fulfilled all court obligations associated with the crime. Additionally, the crime must have been committed on or after November 1, 1989, and not all felony and misdemeanor convictions are eligible for expungement. It is important to consider individual circumstances before deciding whether or not to pursue expungement, and seeking the assistance of a lawyer is recommended.
